Following the drastic price cut of Nintendo’s Wii, both Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3 have seen a reasonable chunk cut off their retail price. The PlayStation 3 160GB has respectfully fallen under the £200 mark, while the Xbox 360 ‘S’ 250GB console has fallen to under £150 – lower than the 4GB model is expected to retail for.
The unofficial price cuts are held at Amazon, and come as little surprise given the position of Wii. It’s more than likely that these price points are temporary, an incentive designed to spur-on console sales over the Easter holiday period, though nothing has been confirmed at this point. The PlayStation 2 160GB bundle includes the console and one controller, and is available for £199.98, and the Xbox 360 ‘S’ 250GB console also comes with on controller, priced at £149.98.
While neither of these price cuts are official, it’s not uncommon for large retailers to force console manufacturers hands. Ahead of this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), we could see every major player receiving a significant price drop.
