Suppose Nintendo releases a system in 2012 that has a key innovation that people find remarkably desirable at a price that people believe is reasonable; on top of this innovation, the system also has a significant advancement in processing power and features. The system sells quickly and third party publishers soon decide that they need to support the system well (especially in the launch period of Sony and Microsoft’s consoles) to be profitable; and the vast majority of games are designed around Nintendo’s system, potentially with some enhancements for Sony and Microsoft’s eventual consoles. ... |
this hypotheical has two rather large assumptions though.
1 the rumore that the OP is commenting on suggests that there is not significant advanement in processing power but rather nintendo is targeting apporximently the same as th3 ps3.
2 first, just a general lulz at the idea of third parties supporting a nintendo console well. second, the wii is more powerful than the ps2 and yet ps2/wii multiplates where the wii version was downgraded to the ps2 level plague the wii for years. the ps3 is somewhat more powerful than the 360 and especially has that blu ray drive extra feature but no one takes advantage of it because third parties want to be able to support the 360 as well. thus, as the rumor suggests that nintendo is targeting the same power as the ps360, the wii2 will get dumbed down multiplates to the least common denominator of the three consoles. that's how third parties work.
