Yes it is a massive drop, but it says a lot when the wii is a only couple thousand behind the x360 (probably beat it with Japan) and it has had such a massive drop. It shows the dizzy heights it is coming from.
The fact that it is still competing without any new major games is a credit. You can take it as a negative or a positive. Nothing sells well forever except bread (maybe drugs, booze and sex as well) so I it had to fall at some point, it's approaching five years old and past it's peak.
It seems some people thought it would have sold a billion or something.
As talk of a new wii spreads sales of the current one will probably fade, at least until a date is confirm (this year or next, whenever), even with a price cut.
Edit: OK, just read it is predicted for a late 2012 launch so maybe the price cut will help.
