The only reason the anime went bad was due to 4Kids Entertainment. It's gotten a lot better and there is some more battle action. There was even cussing in one of the recent Diamond and Pearl episodes.
GameFreak has at least 1,000 Pokemon thought up from the first, Bulbasaur. There are a total of 493 Pokemon released to the public.
