While I'm not a huge fan of the genre, there have been some great ones this generation...
1. Bioshock (not the greatest shooting mechanics out there... but man, when you get into that Bathysphere and head into Rapture... there's nothing else like it. The atmosphere in that game is just stunning. Glad to see an FPS break the mold of "mediocre singleplayer/fun multiplayer yay!" to make one heck of a single player experience.)
2. Left 4 Dead 1/2 (I'm not much of a competitive gamer [that's only for Smash Bros.], so when a game comes along that encourages playing together, I'm much more inclined to take a look. And when said game is all about surviving a zombie apocalypse, I'm all ears. I love playing with others and having a blast. And even when I am feeling competitive, playing as the different Zombies rocks. Smoker ftw!)
3. Halo 3/Reach (At the end of the day, when everything is said and done, playing with friends in Halo 3/Reach is just fun. The game gets the basics right, and then sprinkles it with a bunch of goodies to make things always fresh and fun. I dunno... just having Warthog wars puts a smile on my face. Now that we're in a world of fast paced, super technical, super competitive FPS gaming... it's nice to see a series that slows down and focuses on what makes the genre so much fun.)
