Nintendo has 26 First/Second party studios. They also have quite a few 3rd party semi-exclusive studios like Monster Games, Shine'en, etc.

Check them out here, I'm keeping the list up to date as best as I can. There really is no excuse for this drought. They are outsourcing everything. This only points out at a new console being unveiled very soon.

You're making some pretty big assumptions when you say this, such as that all the studios' projects will result in release (they don't), that none of them are involved in hardware/software R & D (some are), that they're not juggling four separate platforms (they are), and that studios don't temporarily combine to work on projects (they do).
More the to the point...Shin'en?! You do realize they're only two people, AND that they're nonetheless releasing new games pretty quickly (FAST is coming to WiiWare soon).

I know, but you have to take into consideration that many of them are capable of handling more than 1 project at a time, so that balances things out.
I didn't know they were 2 guys only at shin'en. That's amazing. Anyways, the point is that Nintendo has a lot from where to choose, and if they don't it's because they are busy doing something else (AKA Wii 2 ;P )

I think you are right with your assumptions, I mean is really hard to believe that they have so many studios doing games for the 3ds only... I am actually thinking that we may see a wii2 for early next year (Not that I mind, I´ll buy it day 1)
E3 will settle this matter I think, if we only see xenoblade, last story and Zelda (I´d be very happy thats for sure) that would be the most honest confirmation that a wii2 is just around the corner...
