The cultural dominance of the US was driven by the fact that while the world was torn by war, Americans could sit comfortably and make entertainment products. This gave them a huge advantage, especially in the movie industry. Obviously the economy helped, but if the US had been a warzone (like Europe), the movie industry would have never developed like it did.
