Sure, reducing your BOM is always a good thing to do but you can do that with basic revisions.  Look how many the PS2 had.  19 or so.  But it had just 1 major hardware redesign.


Well then it depends on the PR. The PSP and DS both had revisions sooner due to bad PR, while systems like the NES, PS1, PS2, and Gameboy could wait for major revisions.

On the other hand, the PS1 and PS2 did have disc drive fixes soon, so the battery issue could be a minor revision.
