I'm sorry to disappoint, but shonen is exactly the hipster kind of anime. Ugh. I can't stress how much I hate it, with Death Note being the only decent one.

I thought the big three weren't hipster, and that any long-running series was crap?

and when was Death Note shonen? It's a little too dark and gory for that

I'm basing this off people I know plus my former GF. People that barely watch anime, and look steretypically hipster (didn't even know wtf hipster meant while I was with her).

As for DeathNote... while not stright up action, the character of Kira is exactly the one to appeal to shonen fans.
