[edit: On the plus side, while the RS0 technique works, I remembered that redstone repeaters also prevent back-contamination, which is what I needed to avoid. This may help on the second try, when I go from scratch.
[On the minus side, that exit is currently inoperative. Recommend walking to Joe's Tower exit and taking his rail to spawn point if you get stuck there; avoiding that stop is also recommended.]
