and mouse over the process that is causeing the 99% it will give you the list of services that are using this svchost process. Then if it looks funky, then you can right click and do a little research on yoru own, to see if you can remove it or not. Worst comes to worst you end up with a reformat anyhow.

svchost is the main piece of software running the internet on the platform. it just sounds like he has a virus that is inviting all his buddies along.

I am well aware. It also means he might be able to single out which file it is.
