No they can't. The new PS3s can't even play older games. All the Wii can do is play GC games, and the 360 only goes back tot he Xbox. Considering that I'm playing X-COM, which is back from '94, I would say that the consoles half-ass that as well.

The PS3 can play games all the way up from 1994, and some can even play games from PS2, Wii can play games all the way from the 80s and Xbox 360 is compatible with its predcessor games

Do you know how many old games I can play on my single PC? ALso how old they can be? All of them, and just yesterday I was playing Keen 1, and a few weeks ago I beat PoP again. That last one was from '88.

You can however play all those games on PC using emulators. I sometimes play old Amstrad CPC games and their are plenty of SNES, Mega Drive, PS1, N64 emulators out there. Brands are pretty meaningless with a PC.
