| RolStoppable said: The first two pages are pretty much the same as the stuff you could read on Sean Malstrom's blog in the last few weeks, so it's possible that the author of this article reads that blog every now and then. Unfortunately, this useful information is then used to move over to rather irrational doomspelling on page three by saying that the 3DS could be outdone on the casual front by iOS and on the hardcore front by the NGP. For one, because Nintendo doesn't have an online shop that offers retail sized games and is generally not convenient to use and two, because the NGP will obviously be the better choice for core gamers, even though the same was said about the DS vs. PSP and the DS eventually came out on top. The real reason why the 3DS will have trouble to reach the same sales level as its predecessor is a too strong emphasis on 3D gameplay, simply because it can easily be done now. 2D games will only make up for a minority of the library and that's going to cost Nintendo a lot of customers, because those people accounted for a pretty sizeable chunk of their previous handhelds. Those gamers won't purchase an NGP or play games on iOS instead though, because those systems don't offer what they want either. Nintendo's Virtual Console service on the 3DS could soften the blow though. We have to wait and see how Nintendo handles the 3DS and which kind of games they'll make for it. There's not much reason to be overly optimistic right now, but on the other hand it's not like the 3DS is already a lost cause, far from it. |
I am pretty sure Nintendo will develop it's games to work well with 3D slider on and off. Whenever I decided to get the 3DS I will probably turn the slider off a decent amount of times to conserve the battery more. I expect that the games should look and play just as good in 2D and 3D. Once they release Mario Kart I will probably buy the 3DS. That is one of the ips I am most interested in seeing for the 3DS (besides F-Zero). Those two ips right there have a chance to sell the 3DS like hotcakes if done right. Of course you can't forget about Mario.
