Then whose expectations shall we use as a yardstick?  Once we disregard the projections of the people who are in the best position to gauge the success or failure of their own product, we enter the land of wishful thinking, where 2006-2009 PS3 sales were stellar, and the Virtual Boy was an unqualified commercial success.  You propose substituting the intimate knowledge of the platform creator with the ignorant guesses of the individual.  No real analyst would ever do such a thing!

We'll see what kind of story will tell the future, according to you if Nintendo is happy about 3DS sales it's a sucess, since they are the company who creates the 3DS. I don't think in 5 years we'll be there bashing 3DS as the first handheld failure of Nintendo, anyway I got your point...
