Yes thats exactly one of the reason of a higher cost of HD games, inorder for it to shine you need to put alot more details in there than SD games, and the new HD hardware give more advance instructions producing eye candy graphic and that is what really seperate the advanced hardware to the low end console. even if you blow up SSBB to a higher resolution it still cant compete with HD console games that built from the ground up taking advantage of all those new eye candy instructions.

I'm not talking about upscaling SSBB as the more you blow up something to fit a higher resolution the worst it looks especially in games. Also this does the opposide effect of anti-aliasing, hello to jagged edges. The exact same 3d models would looked better in HD if the Wii could run them in HD. Thus even average looking games ( I would say even SSBB is above average) looks better in HD.
Now you understand why I am disappoint that Nintendo didn't give Wii a little more juice to at least run their games in 720p. Even if the made the cost around $300 the Wii would have still sold like hotcakes. Now you may think that HD is no big deal now but just look how much LCDs have taken over the market of both TV and PC monitors during PS2 life span.
" it would make no sense at all to put it on PS3, if it isn't to take advantage of the power."
I say that would fit almost all the games for the PS3 right now.
