Any direct answers to these questions would simply be playing the guessing game as there really isn't a definitive way to predict long term consumer adoption of the platform, which in turn depends largely upon the quality of software support. If third parties have a tough time getting decent ROIs on their initial offerings, it may be first party Nintendo games that are largely driving hardware sales as higher profile third party titles are scaled back budget-wise.
It may be a forgone conclusion to simply assume the 3DS will follow the exact same sales patterns as the DS did throughout its product cycle.
