I don't think the Black Screen of death will become a big issue. From the sound of it , its a software issue that Nintendo will likely patch within days. Also as others said in the comment section its not like this Black Screen of Death is much of an issue, its very rare or you'd see dozens of threads on all the major gaming sites. If it turns out to be a hardware issue then Nintendo will fix it ASAP its not going to be like X-Box where 3-4 years into the generation the Red Light still kills your console. Nintendo will fix it rest assured.
Also Nintendo is giving us a very good warranty, it can be extended by regestering your console online. I've never had to send a console to Nintendo for repairs but I've had friends who's console broke on them and Nintendo was very reliable fixing the consoles in weeks or replacing them either or.
