Your analogy to try and equate guns and the PS3 is just getting more and more of a long grasp, but if you continue it will be a pretty fucking hilarious stream of thought for a demotivator. The point is that I can, end of story. I will also not be sued if I only use certain parts of the book at this point since you can't copyright "how to make things go boom." |
You just can't drive it on public roads or register it. Tired of reiterating the same analogies, but you can't log onto PSN or XBL with an illegally modified console either. If caught, they're well within their legal rights to kick you off permanently.
Then keep it simple; there are things consumers can buy that they don't have the legal right "to do whatever the hell they want to them becuase they paid for them" as you would put it. Illegal firearms modifications was just one example that was pretty obvious. You just chose to turn it into a "you can't compare weapons with computers!" argument which was really besides the point.
And yes, computers can be used as weapons. It's illegal to use them to hack into the National Defense Grid too. Of course I'm sure you believe if it's your computer, you can do whatever the hell you want with it or something to that effect.
And yes, you can copyright the recipes in the Anarchist Cookbook, it's right there in black and white on page 2: Copyright 1971 by Lyle Stuart Inc.

Someone's read the Anarchist Cookbook and I'm guessing it wasn't you.
