Nope, men are bound by the same restrictions - only engage in sex with your wife (however, a man is able to have up to 4 wives, which does allow more sexual freedom, but only for the man). And adultery is what the word translates to roughly (I think the arabic word is "zinnah,") but it does refer to extramarital sex, for both a man and a woman. Sex itself isn't really seen as impure or dirty, if it's between married people. In fact it's encouraged, and not only for the sake of conceiving a child (for instance contraceptives are allowed in Islam). Sex is described as something that helps a marriage as it brings the husband and wife closer together. There's times of engaging in sex and types of sex that are dirty/impure/prohibited. Pre-marital sex, sex when a woman is experiencing her period, anal sex, and homsexual sex are some that come to mind offhand. Sperm is an impure fluid, and the man does have to re-purify himself, but it's not really a series of rituals, it's tantamount to taking a shower. And I didn't know that hinduism is very pro-sex, but I find it odd that India is very...conserved when it comes sex, when hinduism is the dominant religion. I wonder what accounts for that? |
Hinduism is as vastly diverse as Christianity, all concentrated in that one country. The anti-sex divisions must be in control legislatively, as opposed to the group that, say, composed the kama sutra
