It probably stems from a fundamental misunderstandng of batteries. When charging you should go for a full charge rather than partial, and let it drain all the way or as close to it as you can. Somehow it gets confused into charging it fully right off the bat I guess. This is important, but probably not included in many manuals because there is no potential for a lawsuit. All it does is reduce battery life.
