7 million pounds is a drop in the bucket as to what developers and publishers based in the UK will make. It will not rectify the larger tax issues that the UK has which prevents developers from staying there. It may help the brain drain slightly, but since there are much better places in the world to do business, its unlikely this will help.

Although I'm not going into game development, I'm certainly leaving the UK as soon as physically possible to go out and work in the Silicon Valley. It's not just the taxes, though, it's everything - general culture, weather, finances (I know that California's finances are not exactly rosey, but it's like diving into a barrel of tits compared to the UK's). On some levels, the UK will just never be able to compete.

So your gonna jump the pond, eh?

For what its worth, America is diversifying its IT base outside of the valley if your ever interested in pursuing a career in far more sound states.

But I agree. When you get into chats with gaming business people, they avoid England (and western Europe in general) like the plague. Australia too. Not very good climates for IT.

Well, yeah, I will obviously be looking at work all over the states, I've just been eyeing the valley recently because I'm hoping in getting a job there during my year in industry (I have a year in industry as part of my Uni course 3rd year out of 4).

I'm just hoping for one of the states with the warmer climates. :P
