Dead Space, easily.
A game made by EA redwood at the time with a record of making simpson and mafia games.
I was expecting nothing of it. Because it was an EA game, (and this was before they aquired bioware).
But found my favorite shooter and horror game in a while. With interesting Shooting Mechanics (Shooting limbs instead of head and body shots). Along with cool powers, and unique weapons.
And the sequal was even better.
A second was lara croft and the guardian of light.
A spinoff that looked like it was going to be crap because it wasn't even a "tomb raider game". Well it was awesome and 2nd fav game featuring lara croft. But it was made by crystal dynamics and I expected more from them than EA redwood initially
