MHTri did very well on Wii, even better than the first two in PS2 with a larger and more active userbase. So, Dragon Quest can sell a lot even in a doomed console.

You have to take in consideration to the fact that the series increased its fanbase outrageously after MHP2G. That had more to do with than whatever console it was on.

You have said very well: don't matter the console, is the fanbase. The fanbase buy MHTri even on Wii. So, the fanbase will buy DQ on Wii, 3DS, PS3 or any console.

Now, certain consoles make me it easier on the fanbase and certain fanbases will flock to certain consoles (Yakuza, Dynasty Warriors, Taiko Drum Master, etc), but the point is largely the same.
