Also some of the PS3 fans weren't their for a PS3. They were their so they could sell one for 1K on Ebay. Alot of them thought demand was going to be huge and that they could make a pretty penny. Maybe alot of Amazon's pre-orders came from moron's hoping to make a quick buck by selling their systems. Another possibility could be the amount of PlayStation fans at the time of PS3's launch compared to Nintendo fans. Alot of the people buying Wii were casuals who didn't care to get one day one, where as the Sony fanbase was much more driven to get one day one. I guess these could factor into why PS3 out performed Wii. Hopefully this doesn't end up being the case with 3DS. I wanna see 120 million 3DS's sold lifetime! |
There's also that the Wii wasn't all that popuilar before launch. At launch, most of the guys lined up were Zelda fans like me. It wasn't until after launch, when Wii Sports got into people's homes and that positive word of mouth started to spread, that the Wii became the sensation it did.
On the other hand, the PS3 had every hardcore PlayStation fan's interest, even at that absurd high price.
