umm..."quick boot" has been around since day one? (assuming you mean switch on the ps3 and the game/disc inside instantly starts playing) this used to be the case until people complained that them switching on the ps3 didn't necessarily mean they wanted to play a game so the fix came that game you the option to choose which one you wanted.
As for auto update, if you are a member of psnplus, this feature is there already. you set the timer to go off at X-time every day and for about 30mins, it'll switch on your ps3, It looks at the games you played recently and the game in your disc drive then search for updates or sometimes free dlcs and starts downloading it for you, if you need to pay for it, it'll tell you there is a paid dlc available.
PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
