You forgot to add that arcades wouldn't die, and the PC IS the future of gaming to.  You know those old consoles like the Atari 2600?  They were just a fad I tell you.  The PC is the future, and who needs a 3D card anyhow, as the PC has enough horsepower you don't need to add a graphics card, because the PC can handle it.

Anyhow, another factor playing a role in issues of the PC as a driving platform for AAA titles is that the costs to produce a AAA keeps going up.  This limits people breaking into the industry to be able to compete (one reason to do PC gaming), and also the need to recover costs.  Piracy plays a role here to regarding the PC as a platform for gaming also.
