To be perfectly honest its unfair because PS3 had no 1 year headstart either, so them selling less should be obvious since they have comparable userbase.

If PS3 was selling like past Playstation consoles there would be no reason to use this excuse. I mean did original Xbox and Gamecube fans make excuses like this?
Also, PS3 just doesn't have any franchises as big as Halo. Head start or not, that why 360 has a huge edge in software sales.

There's no way xbox or gamecube could have made similar arguments because of the bolded "comparable userbase". Difference of 2.8 million - 4 million is not going to affect software sales that much.
And PS3 does have big franchises as Halo, GT 5 and prologue both have sold relatively well. MGS4, God of War 3 and Uncharted 2 have also sold well, around 4 million that is awesome considering its been like a year since GoW and 1 1/2 since Uncharted 2?
Apart from Gears and Halo 360 doesn't sell that many exclusives either, they are usually bundled like forza 2 and 3. Kinect sports did sell well though.
Head start is one reason why 360 has more overall software sales and in turn more exclusive sales. By the time this gen ends I am sure Sony will have more comparable exclusive game sales.
No one's making excuses, just stating facts.

None of those games you mention has sold anywhere near what Halo 3 has sold, let alone Reach. Untill ps3 gets a 10 million seller it has no franchise as big as Halo.

GT5 has been out for less than 4 months and your comparing it to Halo 3!
At the end of the day GT5 will outsell Reach mark my words. I gurantee you by the end of the year GT5 will sell at least 2-2.5 million!
