To be perfectly honest its unfair because PS3 had no 1 year headstart either, so them selling less should be obvious since they have comparable userbase.

If PS3 was selling like past Playstation consoles there would be no reason to use this excuse. I mean did original Xbox and Gamecube fans make excuses like this?

Also, PS3 just doesn't have any franchises as big as Halo. Head start or not, that why 360 has a huge edge in software sales.

Your making excuses as well though. An exclusive is defined as a thing that is only on one platform and yet you want to warp that definition so that it can benefit your argument or needs. Your earlier definition requires a designate andthe industry has always used exclusive as a term to describe an item that is only on a specific platform. 

Comparisons were made last generation, but it was also pointless, mainly because they barely sold anything and it'd be like bring sticks to a sword fight. Gaming message boards were also much less popular back then and sales numbers and data specifics were much harder to come by.
