I like the illegitamate child idea as Jake's all grown up anyway.
Maybe have Charlie die (in some weird sexual way) and have Alan inherit the house only to have a cousin/long lost brother with Charlie's personality spoonge off him like Alan did. Then have it where Alan is forced to take care of the illegitimate child.
