Let me throw some numbers at you. *NOTE I JUST CHOSE SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT AS PUBLISHER FOR ALL SONY CONSOLES, I DIDN'T ADD THE OTHER SONY PUBLISHERS LIKE SONY IMAGESOFT, SONY MUSIC ENTERTAINMENT ETC. SO SONY FIRST PARTY GAMES MAY BE HIGHER. N64 sold 227 million games. 130 million of those games were Nintendo so second/third party only sold 97 million. Now it's competition the PSOne sold 962 million games, and out of that 151 million was Sony first party games so 811 million games were second/third party, no brainer where allt eh suppose went there. Now the next gen, the GameCube sold 208 million games. 70 million was from Nintendo so 138 million was second/third party. Now the Xbox did well with software but ONLY in America (73% of it's games were sold in America), the rest of the world had barely any games. Out of the 268 million games, 227 was third party so they had decent support, but when you compare it to the PS2...it doesn't look good. The PS2 sold 1.5 billion games, out of all those games surprisingly only 130 was Sony's first party (actually less then the PSOne?? they were just riding the money train lol), so that's a woping 1.37 billion games that were second/third party...insane. ...This is fun I'm going to do this gen just for something to do, don't have to read this, this is just for me. Wii sold 646 million games and...jesus christ 326 million was first party (heads up, about 100 million of that is bundled), so thats 320 from second/third party. X360 sold 494 million and 97 million is first party (maybe around 15 - 20 million bundled?) so thats 397 million games from second/third party. Now the PS3 sold 350 million games, and 72 million is first party (hard to say with bundled there wasn't much that was heavily bundled, maybe around 10 million roughly?) so that's 278 million thats second/third party. Combining HD second/third party software since they both practically have the exact same support thats 675 million games. So for ever HD console sold the consumer will buy 6.8 second/third party games. |
WOW, interesting stats. Mind you, personally I still found about 40 N64 games I wanted to buy so I was happy. I did have a PS1/PS2 but I only bought a few core games on those.maybe about 20 on each. I do not know. However I do know if I had endless amounts of money they would of probably had 100 games min each.
But like I said I was happy with 40 games, I never really played a game in one sitting or few days in a row to finish it anyway. So 40 for me stretched out nicely over the life of the N64.
