The used game market isn't a new phenomenon in Japan, it's been huge since the 1980s. Back in the PS1 days we had estimates that DQVII lost over a million sales to the secondary market... this is something that impacts ALL systems, and pretty much always has. Neither PS3 or 3DS are in any way, shape or form a special case.
