| reverie said: BenKenobi88, What Mac model are you comparing to? It doesn't really make sense that way. There's only one model for $1500 - the 20" iMac with 2.4 GHz Core2Duo. Are you saying that for $700 you get both an high-end gaming PC and a 20" monitor? 20" is nothing fancy, but it's worth at least $250. And you can get the 20" iMac for $1200, the $1500 model already has a bigger harddrive and such. Also, all iMacs come with Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi 802.11n, a webcam and a remote, an internal microphone and stereo speakers. Is that all included in your $700 PC? I think you will come down to a price difference of $200 give or take, and many people who are not as informed PC shoppers as you will wind up paying more for the same machine than you do. naznatips, If your Mac is older than 4 years and you can't install the latest Mac OS on it (10.5 Leopard), you just keep it running with the older Mac OS. Why not? OS 10.4 is still officially supported by Apple, mainly with security updates. Or you sell it on eBay if it's really become too slow for you. For a 4 year old Mac you will get at least 30 % of the original price. If you want to upgrade a 4 year old PC to run Vista, which parts can you keep? If you like to replace single parts instead of just buying a new box you should also really hate video game consoles and pretty much most of home electronics and appliances. The fact that you can change parts inside a PC is an anomaly, not a rule. |
I'm currently running:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ processor
ATI Radeon x800 graphics card
2 GB Ram
300 GB hard drive
Vista (legally paid for it)
DVD-RW drive
Wireless card
HDTV Tuner card
22" Widescreen monitor
All that cost me $720, and I'm guessing most Macs don't have TV tuner cards standard either, so without that it cost me $670. Again...I see NO cost benefit to buying a Mac, unless "NO VIRUSES" is worth an extra $700 to you.
See, the thing about PCs is, you can shop around and buy parts when they go on sale. I bought my Acer 22" for $170, Black Friday is a wonderful thing. I advise NOBODY to go and buy Dells...in fact, my friends and I make fun of Dells more than Macs I think. "DUDE YOU'RE GETTING A DELL!" I feel sorry for that dude.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
