Actually the first time I played Pokemon was Pokemon Red pirated in 1995 before its release in North America. At the time I did not have a GameBoy and little income. However after playing it on PC I bought it and a GameBoy shortly after release.
Honestly alot of people claim that the origionals were far better due to only 150-Pokemon because it was less complex and complicated. Everyone knew all 150 Pokemon, I admit the origional was very enjoyable but I don't think the newer ones are any less so.
Though I must admit now that its at what the 620 Pokemon, I don't know all of them by name infact I only know the first 250-300 Pokemon by name. But thats part of the enjoyment of playing the game with so many species and Pokemon to choose from its amazing to me.
I always dreamed that one day their would be 1,000 Pokemon. It seems that day might come true. Not to mention sales show that the new games are just as popular as ever.
