There are a large number of students at your school with BlackBerries? I never really saw it prevalent at all student phone.
I've seen pokemon emulations on phones for years, it's always an evergreen time waster and nostalgia inducer.
I experienced that big time last year, my freshman year. One month before HG/SS releases, everyone broke out their Gameboy line systems or emulators and started playing pokemon. Red, Blue, the couple of admired Yellows, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald. Golden Sun and Fire Emblem also were revived a few times.
Funnily enough, this year, it was discovered that somehow many of the cross country team owned a Fire Emblem game on the GBA, (it's not THAT common!) and the last couple months have been a strong revival of that.
I have to wonder what might be revived next year.
School is the portable game's saviour around here. Band has MarioKart sessions sometimes.
