Maybe Ninty realised that having a finger gripped by a thing isn't the best way to relax for far too many people and they are just looking for a less intrusive implementation. Or maybe it was just a decoy to mislead competitors. Or maybe they imagined malware could have been written for it making the users, instead of relax, enter a vicious circle leading to anxiety, panic, tachycardia or even heart attack (actually it was the first use for it I imagined, maybe I'm evil 
).
