How so, that Nintendo was dethroned?
Playstation sold more than the NES, and sold more than the SNES and Genesis combined.
It had a wider variety of games: For every "awesome" N64 game, there were at least 3 good to great PS1 games.
Even with the multiplatform games, the N64 without a doubt had better graphics, but the audio was significantly better on the PS1, the controls for a majority of games felt better on a PS1 controller compared to that huge piece of plastic of an N64 controller, and for a minute few, while the PS1 allowed for cutscenes, the N64 had a little picture with subtitles underneath.
Add in the fact that the most expensive PS1 games cost $50 compared to $70+ for the most expensive N64 games.
The N64 was the only non-Sega console where I owned the fewest games for, and I have no regrets because there were more games available for the PS1.
