They broke even on $299 PS3 in... June 2010, I believe? No way in hell they'll make it to $199 before 2012 and it makes no sense whatsoever to go into the red for fun before that, especially with the expected loss that NGP might sell at.

And I'm not entirely convinced that $199 will have such an enormous effect at all. Not unless they package it with a SuperSlim, anyway.

While I agree that a $199 PS3 is at least 1-2 years, to even imply that a PS3 at that price point wouldn't be HUGE is quite delusional.  I have full faith that a $249 model is coming later this year, and I know that is going to be enough to propel the PS3 past the 360 once and for all.
