Actually the traditional demands have been good design and replayability. Those other things were just decided to be the main demands of gamers by developers wanting to show off, not gamers wanting a good time. So the so-called casual market is the least impressed by flashiness tier, not a lower tier.

Otherwise I agree with you.

Yeah, sorry, I might have skimed on that point. True, the traditionnal demands of these gamers was and is good design, replayability, great game universe, but since the industry advanced mainly along the lines of graphics and processing power, that's the metric I'm using. Their demands are still the same, and along the line of graphics and power, they're in the lower/lowest tiers of customers in this generation.

Which shows how odd it is that it's considered bad to cater to a demographic that doesn't mind if you spend LESS MONEY than the demographic the gaming industry keeps going for.

That particular discussion though deserves a thread of it's own. But, yeah, just quickly here, it's simply because the devs didn't want to.

Still not sure how much is malice or stupidity from them. Perhaps it depends on the developers.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
