GT5 was always looking to sell a lot, the problem was the franchise was trending up in EMEAA and down in US/Japan and a lot of people/sites decided to take the downtrending to indicate a problem while ignoring the uptrend in other regions.

Grasping at straws as I'd like to call it. It's not so much a shock that GT5 has done so well, rather it's the underestimating that makes them feel all the sweeter.

Let's be magnanimous, "shipped" and "meh Japan" are the last consolations before hitting the bottle. As soon as GT5 exceeds 9.5M, teh interwebz will start to pullulate with alcoholics, chewing crow and gulping cheap booze!
