It's just a shame that there's not enough knowledge of the industry to a) stop ordinary people buying their games and b) allow them to understand that these games are not representative of gaming as a whole. People can read film and music reviews in newspapers each morning but there aren't usually any games reviewed. Where there are they're usually poor and written by a non-gamer. Ordinary people don't know where to begin with finding out about games. For films etc they look in the paper and talk to friends. That usually isn't possible with games. If they come across game sites or magazines they wouldn't understand most of what was being discussed. If the industry's going to keep all these new casual gamers it needs to get good quality reviews into mainstream newspapers. |
BS.
I can go on Google and type pretty much any game's name along side the word "review" and get an entire page of reviews for it. Most all those reviews have a number attached. Even assuming that the person looking is a complete idiot, seeing a game like Mini Desktop Racing with a 1.2 rating on IGN (one of the top three Google links) will indicate something.
As for ease, it really doesn't get much easier than that unless you're delving into the realm of "Let's push game reviews onto everyone" via media such as newspapers. I don't like having things I don't care about pushed onto me so why would I wish to subject others to it (even if the content is what I personally like).
I'll say it again, if people are lazy and don't actually put in the effort to look before they leap, they deserve to go splat at the bottom of the pit of stupidity.
