I am not surprised, and nor should anyone else be. It is a simple matter of third parties prematurely killing the Wii with virtually no support, combined with Nintendo focusing too much on niche core games all of last year.

Nintendo still has some potential cards up their sleeves; Zelda, NSMB Wii 2, Vitality Sensor, price cut, DQX (Japan) among them, and rest assured they will use them sooner or later. I think they are just focusing a lot on 3DS right now. And why shouldn't they? They've got enough of a lead against their competitors that being outsold by this little a margin is just a drop in the ocean.
