I dunno, everyone's a whole lot more excited about and bullish on 3DS upfront than they were DS. People forget, but DS really struggled upfront... the platform was routinely selling less than GBA even, there was nothing interesting on the software front for months, it was pretty dire. DS really didn't turn things around until about a year later when the Lite came, and was buoyed by casual oriented 'non-games' (Nintendogs, Brain-Age, Big Brain Academy) and rock solid Nintendo franchise debuts (Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing WW, New Super Mario Bros). Likewise, people today are alot more skeptical of and hesistant about NGP's fortunes than they were PSP. If anything, I'd say NGP's going to have a tougher time than last gen, and 3DS a far easier one, at least in the early going... |
Hmm this is true. But I think the caution is mostly on the gamers, the devs seem to really like the NGP. I really do think the two thumbsticks will have a big impact, naive or not. What I think will break it for me is how well the NGP can appeal to the Nintendogs folks, it looks like they're gonna give it a solid attempt.
Also, your example at least shows that you never know what will happen. lol
P.S. I think Japan will be a very interesting battleground for these two.
