What I don't really get though is why people never seem to mention the Xbox's failure against the PS2 and always go straight to the Gamecube. Yes the Gamecube sold poorly, but Xbox only sold a few million more, not to mention costed MS billions of dollars, while Gamecube profited. Yet Gamecube seems to get all the flak for failing against the PS2.

Yes, Xbox had the mega hit Halo, but little else beyond that. And Nintendo had the minor hits of Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Zelda, Mario Party, Smash Bros Melee, etc..

I've always thought the GC was more successful than the Xbox.  But the media has usually been softer on the Xbox division than the other two companies (lots of advertising dollars).  Even though the Xbox was intended for MS to break into the market, they did it in about the most inefficient and least cost effective way possible.  Sony was much more effective with the PS1.

OT:  I think the Gamecube couldn't shake off the "kiddy console," no matter what they did.  The Xbox was considered the "cool kids'" console.  It's just like how the PS3 can't shake off the "no games" image in America/UK and Xbox 360 can't shake off the "FPS Blood/Gore console" outside of America/UK.

Whether I like the Wii or Gamecube better at this point all depends on if Xenoblade and Last Story are going to be localized.  I more want Xenoblade, to tell the truth.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
