Same can be said of the 360. It hasn't had a price cut in two years and is in the drivers seat in terms of price drop. Sony is for sure not dropping price this year IMO, they just started posting profit for the first time since launch on the PS3 which so far has been a financial disaster. They need to make that money back and are much more concerned with profits than with market share. That being said the 360 will be hitting the $149 price point this year and it will be the best selling console in America for the year, outselling Wii. |
@Bolded: I disagree with this. IMO Sony surely won't cut price first because the PS3 is profitable and it still sells pretty well, so there's no need to cut its' price (so I partly agree). But they will cut price when MS and Nintendo do it. I mean, if/when the price of the 360 drops to $149 it would be just half as expensive as the cheapest PS3 sku and it would hurt Sony/PS3 more not to cut price as well. Of course, this is about America.
In Europe (I'm leaving out MEAA here for obvious reasons) the PS3 (without a price cut) would probably still sell more than the 360 because it's only selling worse than the 360 in UK, but better in most parts of continental Europe. But I don't think that this would be enough for Sony.
About 360 outselling the Wii in America: I think it's very likely and I would even go a little further and say that it will be in 2nd place in every region (being beaten by the 360 in Americas and by the PS3 in EMEAA and Japan). Nothing is for sure of course, but it could definitely happen.
