I do plan on getting a PSP for many of the JRPGs it has, I already got a Wii for Xenoblade and The Last Story (and many other games), I don't plan on getting a DS because the only good JRPG that I heard it has (a JRPG that I will consider "good") is The World Ends with You, and I won't get a 360 for Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia.

What about the likes of A.S.H, Soma Bringer, FFT A2, Valkyrie Profile PotC, Inazuma Eleven, DQ IX, Tales of Hearts, Xenosaga, Contact, Fire Emblem, you don't consider them 'good'?

And don't forget the ports/remakes of games like FFIII-IV, Chrono Trigger, Disgaia, Rhapsody, SaGa 2, DQ IV-VI and the like.

1. Ports are ports, not new games :P

2. Xenosaga's story is really good, however it wasn't from this gen, And I heard nothing good about none of the games stated above (except Soma Bringer) from the pepole who I usually ask about which JRPGs I should play.

And it's not just the story, it's a combination of the story with the soundtrack and atmosphere and a lot of other things...

1. Doesn't matter if it's new, only if you haven't played it yet (or don't have your old copy anymore).

2. I have to disagree on Xenosaga. The pacing is glacier slow (and don't tell me that's just for dramatic purposes; RPGs are not 26 episode animes that need to pad out the time), too much isn't explained well, and the dialog is still on the sub par level that most games are.

Then again, I find even RPGs from the PS1/Saturn/N64 days aren't that good with their stories. Servicable for games, yes, but not really good stories on their own.

It does matter if they're new, because if they're not new, they don't matter since I am talking about a trend in a genre.

Did you play the third Xenosaga? (I talked mainly about that one, I do agree that the pacing in the first two is kinda slow).

And... Xenogears' story, or Vagrant Story's, or Final Fantasy Tactics' sstories are amazing, to say the least, and I read a lot of books, if you call them "servicable for games" (as in, comparing them to... like... Gears of War, or Killzone...) I don't think that you understand what you're talking about here... but it's just my opinion.

1. Okay, but it would have been best to point out the story aspect, not the port aspect, as that muddles what you mean.

2. I didn't get to the third game. If the story is better, I hope the gameplay isn't as obtuse as well.

3. I do understand what I meant. And I didn't claim none had good stories, just most aren't particularly good. If you break down a lot of the elements, including characterization, motivation, and event causation, most of the games don't feel as well crafted as they should be. Even the games you mentioned have faults at times, even though they are still some of the better ones.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
