I think this is possible, but more because I'm just a skeptic on how well the 3DS is going to be received. I have alot of doubts over the 3D, and whether a pure gaming device with (At least to me) little functionality outside of gaming still has a future since the uprising in phone / hybrid devices. I'm just not sure whether the market as a whole is heading in that direction to be honest.
Either way, I don't see either of these handhelds flying off the shelves to begin with and I think the 3DS is really struggling with a $250 pricepoint. I can't see parents buying each of their kids a $250 handheld for Christmas or someone like my sister, who plays Layton and Tetris on her DS, being too keen to splash out £200 to play puzzle games in 3D...
I'm a skeptic on the NGP too (Albeit that's the handheld I'm going to buy personally) but it's hard to imagine the PSP successor setting the world alight given the state of the PSP now. If the whole trend of hybrid device, ioS stuff is really the future though I think NGP is better placed to carve its own market in that place. Maybe that's still a good 5-10 years off though *Shrug*.
