500k 3DS systems being sold would require 2.5m $50 games being sold with them to reach the $250 million figure, an attach rate of five games per system. 750k 3DSes need 1.25m games to go along with them, certainly a more realistic ratio.

Now the question is will that many 3DS units be available at launch and if yes, will they actually sell out within the first 24 hours?

Good points, Rol.  If they can indeed sell even close to 1m day one, they've probably got it in the bag.  However if it doesn't sell out immediately and it's dependent upon software to make up the difference, that's the wild card. 

Nintendogs/Cats and Street Fighter will likely be the biggest sellers, and neither of those will sell units on day one like a new SMB would.
