I've taken this report from the ONM blog, because I believe that personal accounts of people using these products give us a more reliable opinion than hearing it from Nintendo themselves. One thing which I think is fantastic is the way that I've not found any negative opinions from the people that have tried the 3DS yet - since there must be people that go to these events and try to find faults in the products, I think that the 3DS is brilliant stuff.
This report came from: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/23649/blog/nintendo-3ds-blew-me-away/
When ONM told me that I could get hold of tickets for the Nintendo 3DS event in London at the weekend I was over the moon and couldn't wait to finally see for myself if the hype surrounding this console was really justified.
Does the 3D really work? And is it worth the price? I'll answer those question later but first I thought I'd let you know that there's more to these 3DS events than getting hands-on with the console and playing the games. Those who are travelling to Bristol and Glasgow this weekend for the Official Nintendo Magazine's 3DS events should know that they are in for a treat.
Upon entering the venue I was greeted with a handheld hall of fame-style display beginning with the classic 'Game & Watch' and ending with the original DS. 'This is all very lovely,' I thought. 'But where's the 3DS!' I didn't have to wait long as a member of staff appeared and explained how we (the lucky few) were going to experience "The future of gaming".
The crowd and I were led into a small room where we were met by men dressed as Street Fighter's very own Ryu and Ken. They were sat in pre battle mode but as soon as the crowd was inside they began to 'fight'. It was quite cool. We were allowed to have photos taken with Ryu and Ken before moving on to the next room.
We entered a dim lit room where we were greeted by Claire and Chris Redfield, stars of the new Resident Evil 3DS game. We were told the section ahead had an outbreak of the T-virus, and we were to stick close upon entering inside. What happened next was pretty good fun. It was an outside scene clearly from the game and zombies clawed at you in an attempt to make you jump. It was very short but it left me and my friends laughing all the way into the next room, which was.....heaven!
There were rows and rows of 3DS consoles as far as my eyes could see. I looked at the staff members and before I could speak they signalled for us to begin testing out the new console. The first game I played was Nintendogs & Cats... And gosh... Nothing could have prepared me for what I was going to see when I pushed the 2D slider up to 3D.
All of a sudden the room in which my puppy was playing in seemed to move further away. I picked up a ball with my stylus, threw it and it felt phenomenal! If I were to play the original Nintendogs on DS now it would feel like tapping on a closed window whereas now it's as if I had managed to lift up the handle and open it. Amazing.
Next up was Super Street Fighter IV which was also fantastic. The 3D really drags you in to the point where it feels like you are there, sitting watching on the sidelines of the battlefield. Except you're playing.
I moved onto Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and discovered how good the Circle pad on the 3DS really is. It made moving the characters so much smoother. It is so easy to become immersed in the games as each monster seemed to grab you in its own way.
I entered the final room which was completely white but filled with yet more 3DS consoles and games to play. I tested out the camera feature and the pre-installed game Face Raiders which was incredible and really shows you just how awesome this console is. By pointing the 3DS camera at a card on a flat surface, targets will appear and you have to use the camera to see them before shooting them down.
You can literally walk all the way around the target to reach all the right spots to shoot. It was funny - I found myself sliding the 3D down to 2D just so I could try and get that initial wow feeling again.
Personally the Nintendo 3DS blew me away, the games work brilliantly and are amazing to play. This is great value for what you will experience and remember this is just the start. For anybody who still feels sceptical, you will have to see it to truly believe it.
Did anybody else go to the London event?
