Depends what you're refering too. Biggest financial failure, it is. We don't even know how much money it actually lost because it was also losing all the PS2 and PSP profits since 2006. True. There was definite arrogance on their part. And I was mostly refering to the biggest financial failure. That might actually go to the Xbox. I've read it lost MS a little over 4 bil. Estimates I found for Sony were ~4.5 - 5 billion. Of course both of those are offset by game/controller purchases, and whatever each company had lumped in with the gaming division. So, like you said, we don't know how much those both really cost. But the real point is that Sony is selling the PS3 at a profit, now, and probably won't want to change that in the future. So they probably still have 2 good years or more to sell at a profit, so who knows how much they will be able to make back. The Xbox on the other hand is stuck at 4 mil.
Of course, you could probably go back farther, while adjusting losses according to inflation, and find an even greater financial failure.
