Not solely a console. It was one of the cheapest computers around.... ever actually, and connected directly to a TV.

It was about £80 I believe on release.

Can't find numbers but in the UK at least it sold a lot. Also need to slightly adjust my original numbers. The ZX Spectrum was released at £125, it's predecessors (ZX80 & ZX81) were between £80-100. They made over £8 million profit in 1982 when it released and made huge profit up until 1984 so I think it was fairly sucessful.
